Summer 2009

At long last, Precious Metal's Blog is finally alive. What fun! I.V., Riley and I are land-based in Port Hardy for the summer, while Precious Metal awaits hurricane season to finish in Mazatlan, Mexico. While we miss our "precious" baby immensely, our summer is full and vanishing quickly. The weather has been tremendous this season, allowing us to do a lot of new North Island activities that we rarely do when we have a boat: hiking the newly opened North Island Trail, taking up golf on a more serious level, upgrading our lovely yard and garden, and visiting with numerous friends and visitors.

I.V. is working tirelessly on his property development (view below from 27 spectacular lots overlooking Hardy Bay http://www.goletas.ca/), and has the infra-structure now installed (hydro, water, sewer) therefore allowing us to begin selling the properties and hopefully re-couping the rewards of his efforts.

Riley is busy chasing raccoons and deer from our property while we await for the whales to appear in our bay any time soon. (Photo: Riley waiting to be served in a Mexican restaurant)

I've just booked my ticket to Mazatlan - returning to Precious Metal on September 28. After hauling, painting, and putting her back together I will sail her to La Paz for more upgrades, and then sail the Sea of Cortez for the month of November when I.V. is able to come aboard again.

Our summer highlight was son Charlie and his bride Catharine's wedding in Maui. A perfect wedding in every way. Then in July, I flew to Newfoundland for a family post-wedding celebration where my other son Sam and his wife Lizz joined us from London, England and had a wonderful (treasured) visit at Catharine's parent's home. Absolutely loved Newfoundland and the gracious hospitality of her (extended!) family and the Newfoundlanders as a whole.
